Our Active Transport Competition is back this year and the results for term 1 are in!

This year, there will be class rewards for the highest active transporting class in Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6, plus top individual active transporters will go into the raffle for great bike prizes at the end of the year. This prize pool has been peeled back a bit since the launch of the competition as we went very prize heavy early on try and really drive enthusiasm around the competition. We are now going for cheaper and easier rewards, like an hour of freewheeling time for the winning class and whole class snack rewards to keep enthusiasm up but lower our cost to run the competition.

This term, the winning classes and their prizes are as follows:

• Year 1/2 winner, with an average of 8.9 days active transported, Room 5 – Their prize is a whole class snack reward next term.

• Year 3/4 winner, with an average of 8.9 days active transported, Room 20 – Their prize is a whole class snack reward next term

• The Year 5/6 competition was incredibly tight, with the winner being on 12.83 days and second place being on 12.76 days active transported. Our runner up, with an average of 12.76 days active transported, is Room 18 – for being so close to winning they will also receive a whole class snack reward. Our Year 5/6 and overall winner, on 12.83 days active transported is Room 17. They will receive a snack reward, plus an hour of freewheeling time next term, plus the very very beautiful active transport trophy.

We feel that this competition has been a big driver in lifting our active transport rates from about 25% to about 50% recently and we hope it continues to build APS as an active transport heavy school.

I'm so glad you gave Room 18 a prize too - it would have been tragic to miss out by an difference of 0.06 trips! Great news that the comp seems to be making such a positive difference. You have earned 60 points for running this this term and 20 points for sharing so much helpful and interesting information in this story.

So Paul, whole class snack award? Sounds very interesting.... Love that this all goes towards the BIG DEAL at the end of the year; that will certainly keep everyone on their toes (just like we want!) Oh and welcome to the YM journey!

Thanks James and Arlene, yes Room 18 definitely deserve some reward for their efforts. Whole class snack reward will be something as simple as a popcorn afternoon - cheap, easy, and the kids will love it!
