Bike Month Celebrations

Whats Up, Your Movers! Bella here form the Baldivis Secondary College Green Team,

Last month was Bike Month and at BSC we celebrated this with the Smoothie Bike and our annual bike race. The Smoothie Bike was a great hit with everyone running lunches all week, our flavours were Watermelon Crush, Tropical Breeze and Bananarama. Some of our Green Team students were riding the bike producing well blended smoothies for everyone to enjoy.

The fruit for the Smoothie Bike was generously donated by Woolworths Baldivis with them being more then willing to provide plenty of ingredients.

On Wednesday our annual BSC Bike Race occurred with the largest turnout we've had so far, students from Year 7 to Year 10 all had a go, with many people cheering them on from the sidelines. Students rode two laps of our oval for some great prizes donated from 'The Bike Place' Baldivis which were a scooter (1st place), bike repair kit (2nd place) and a helmet (3rd place). All students who participated also got a free smoothie from our Smoothie Bike event.

As a team we are hugely grateful for everyone who participated, donated and cheered us on with all of our events last month.

Upon reflection, lots of students loved the events but were unaware of why we were doing it. We did have posters up around the school and daily notices going out but next year we need to consider another way to advertise the purpose of Bike Month.

Hi Bella - and the whole Green Team. I love seeing that smoothie bike in action, as well as all those slow bikes. Slow and stationary bikes - it all sounds very Zen! You have earned 30 points for your slow bike event, plus 25 points for your week long promotion of active travel. I have also given you a few bonuses - 20 points for a cracking and details writeup, 5 for it being from Bella's perspective and another 5 for your reflection of improvements to your communications strategy for next time.
