2022 Staff Travel Survey Results

Back in 2010 when it was Travel Smart, we did a staff commute survey. We moved to the temporary administration offices at Fremantle Oval in 2018 when the new Walyalup Civic Centre was being built. When we moved in late last year we did another survey in July to see if travel patterns had changed with the move and new end of trip facilities.

Key changes from the 2018 survey are that:

Car use has continued to reduce from 55% to 50%.
Car passenger / ride share use reduced from 8% to 5%.
Public transport use reduced from 19% to 10%.
Cycling and walking increased from 12% to 18%.

A number of factors could attribute to these changes including:

Effects of the COVID-19 lockdown which saw many people working from home and reducing rideshare and public transport use.
Increase in walking and cycling to reduce public exposure due to COVID-19 and rising fuel prices (and health with reduced access to recreation centres and gyms).
New end of trip facilities and staff information and inductions for the new Walyalup Civic Centre in Walyalup Koort.

Thanks to Your Move for the great prizes we were able to provide as incentives for staff to undertake the survey.

James (Your Move)

Hi Gav, thanks so much for sharing this 😊. It is great to see that walking and cycling is up. I think you might be right about COVID being responsible for the reductions in PT and ride share modes - hopefully they will recover again. It is interesting that "time" is the biggest factor in mode choice. You have earned 50 points for conducting the survey and another 20 for sharing so many details. With bike month coming up, no doubt we will see 👀 you again soon..
