City of Rockingham WA Bike Month

During the month of October, the City of Rockingham facilitated a Bike Maintenance workshop and a Children's Bike Balancing academy workshop.

The Bike Maintenance workshop was held at the Rockingham Youth Centre with participants age ranging from 12 - 17. Those in attendance brought along their own bike to learn some bike maintenance skills and improve the safety of their bike.
100% of participants agreed/strongly agreed that the workshop increased their understanding of bike safety and bike maintenance.
100% of participants also agreed/strongly that the workshop made them feel more confident to cycle as an active mode of transport.

The Children's Bike Balancing academy workshop was held at the Safety Bay Primary School basketball courts. Children in attendance ranged from 4 - 10 years old. Riding skills of the children varied with some learning to balance without training wheels, while others were working on better riding technique.
100% of participants agreed/strongly agreed that the workshop made them more likely to cycle in the community.
66% of participants agreed/strongly agreed made them feel more confident to cycle as an active mode of transport.

The Bike Month activity for adults were unfortunately postponed due to a low number of participant registrations. In agreement with the workshop provider, the City of Rockingham will instead offer a Children's bike workshop for 2 local non-Your Move schools to encourage registration with the program.
