The City of Vincent held it's own small car free day today (25th September) to tie in with World Car Free Day last Sunday. Staff were asked to leave the car at home for the day and pledge to be car free. All staff that made the pledge were invited to a morning tea and were entered into a prize draw to win $100/$50/$10 worth of vouchers (some of which were helpfully bought from the rewards shop!).

The day was advertised around our office and on our intranet. To pledge to be car free there was a simple form to fill in on our website.

In total we had 25 staff make the pledge, a large portion of whom would normally drive.

The day was obviously supposed to help encourage staff to give up their car and try out a new mode of transport but we also wanted to raise awareness of Car Free Day in general. The hope is that next year we will be able to plan a larger event including road closures (we didn't have enough lead time this year).

Thanks for sharing your Vincent Car Free Day, Sam. I like how staff could sign up to the pledge on the intranet. Was going car free a new experience for some of the participants? You earned 40 points for your event, plus 10 bonus points for giving such a good run down of how it worked and another 5 points for letting us know that 25 staff got involved. Can't wait to hear about next year's expanded event!
