National Road Safety Week

We have been busy here at the City preparing for National Road Safety Week.

The City has supported 10 City of Wanneroo 'Your Move' schools to host a healthy breakfast on National Walk Safely to School Day through our 'Kick Start your Walk to School' funding. This will encourage students to walk, cycle or scoot to school or walk some of the way. This is a great opportunity for schools to promote active transport as well as teach road safety.

The City was also successful in receiving a grant from the Road Safety Commission and RAC for National Road Safety Week to host Buckle up for National Road Safety Week at City of Wanneroo Libraries. Kidsafe WA will be delivering "choosing and using car restraints" information sessions at all four of our libraries. There will be a pop up creche available and an AUSLAN interpreter at each session. These sessions align with the theme "how safe is my ride?" and will detail all the common questions regarding passenger safety.

Thanks for the update on your schools' breakfast events Sophie - it is brilliant that you got 10 schools involved 😊. Also good to hear that you and Kidsafe are running the Buckle Up sessions at local libraries. As these sessions don't relate directly to active travel we unfortunately can't give you any YM activity points for them even though we do recognise the value to kids of car related road safety initiatives.
