Schools across the City participated in National Walk Safely to School Day (NWSTSD).

Schools within the City of Wanneroo could apply for $200 Kickstarter Grant towards hosting a National Walk Safely to School Day Healthy Breakfast on the 10th May 2024. Clarkson Primary School, St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, Ashdale Primary School, Shorehaven Primary School, Quinns Rocks Primary School and St Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School all applied for the funding and were successful.

Walking or riding to school reduces traffic congestion, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and improves health and wellbeing. The City aims to inspire long-term change by supporting these initiatives encouraging students and their families to get active and walk to school.

Mayor Aitken attended Ashdale Primary School's NWSTSD breakfast. Nadia was there bright and early with her Your Move student team as well as fellow teachers, parents and the Deputy all helping out. Student leaders were handing out tattoos, fruit and stickers. Mayor Aitken greeted students as they walked, wheeled and scooted through the gate. It was lovely to see so many students using active transport to get to school.

Councillor Jordan Wright attended St Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School greeted students as they walked to school by handing out stickers. Students were greeted with fruit, pancakes and milo to start off their day.

Well done to all our schools across the City who participated in the NWSTD day event.

The CoW is sure doing a great job supporting schools in their YM activities - thanks! Sharing the outcomes of your breakfast grants has earned you 20 points, plus 10 for not skimping on the details 😀 (not that you ever do!).
