The City hosted an RAC Bike Basics Workshop on the 19th November 2023 at Splendid Park in Yanchep. Which was a great collaboration between RAC, People on Bicycles, The City of Wanneroo and Northern Beaches Cycling Club.
These workshops are funded by RAC and delivered by People on Bicycles. Northern Beaches Cycling Club were also in attendance to promote their club and what was available at their club to encourage the love of riding. On both days, I handed out 'slow down consider our kids' bin stickers, map your move brochures, Northern Beaches Cycling Club Youth Squad, West Cycle e-bike buyers guide, Westcycle flyers, Bike Linc cards and asked attendees if they had any questions about active/ public transport in their suburb.
The RAC Bike Basics: Refresh your riding skills was held on the 19th straight after Northern Beaches Cycling Club held their races. Not all 22 participants turned up, but those who did really benefited and enjoyed a ride on the track as well as a leisurely ride to Yanchep Lagoon. We were grateful for the Yanchep breeze. Prior to setting up the event for the day, I was lucky enough to see different grades of riders from Northern Beaches Cycling Club on the track and it was amazing to see the A grade riders take the corner in unison, reaching up to speeds of 60km/hr on the track.
Our second and third workshops on the 26th November, RAC Bike Basics: Children's learn to ride and bike mechanics workshops were postponed due to extreme heat and the bush fires. We are looking to host these again in December.
