Coolbinia's Ride to School Day was an over-riding success! Our cycling statistics increased by 31% compared to the start of the year.

Other survey statistics include: 22% decrease in driving, 36% increase in walking and a mighty 112% increase in the use of public transport, compared to the start of the year survey. The Your Move team thought these improvements were a result of their publicity campaign. They created posters, made PA announcements and parent newsletter items about the Ride to School Day.

When children arrived at school on the Ride to School Day they were given stickers, eco-tokens and other give-aways, plus a raffle ticket. Twenty winning raffle tickets were drawn by the YM team and winners collected their prizes at recess.

To conclude the day, students and parents were thanked for their participation and support for health and environmental benefits.

So many happy photos of the team in action and all the participants too - thanks for sharing those 😁. Great to know too that you had all those excellent increases in active travel and that big 22% in car trips to school on the day. You have earned another 20 points for sharing this update of your NR2SD event and your results. How do the eco-tokens work?

Re the eco tokens, our school has 4 values: Respect, Character, Strive and Responsibility. These plastic token, about the size of a 20cent coin are coloured: Respect - yellow; Character - green; Strive - red & Responsibility - blue. We link Your Move to these values - Respect for our own health & others' health; demonstrating Character when we come to school in an active way; we strive to increase active travel in the school; & we are Responsible for doing our bit to care for the environment.
