Safe Routes to School Update

Coolbinia PS is participating in the Safe Routes to School initiative. The City of Stirling, together with the Department of Transport, is conducting the Your Move Stirling project. The aim of the project is to provide personalised information and support to encourage an active lifestyle.

Parents were invited to provide feedback about the route/s taken by their families to and from school, using an online map. An evaluation of this feedback is being conducted by UWA and the Road Safety Commission.

Building on the findings of the evaluation report, a stencil painting activity will be undertaken by the 2021 Your Move Team in Term 1. The Safe Routes project is making good progress, with locations for stencils already identified. A map has been prepared which outlines both the safe routes that have been identified with community feedback, and also highlights where we will be able to paint the footprints (blue dots) and stop signs (red crosses) next year for the stencil activity.

Another great component of the Safe Routes project is a competition. Parents can sign up for the Your Move Stirling program to earn points for our school. Many parents have already joined the Your Move program and are getting active with their children by walking, riding bikes or scooting to school.

Our school is awarded a point for each parent that registers for the program.
Parents receive a free welcome pack delivered to their home, with personally relevant information. The competition closes on Friday, 7 March 2021 at 5pm.

In addition to all these fabulous happenings, our school will be holding a Your Move Active Travel Festival in Term 1, 2021! This special day will feature many exciting activities, such as, skateboarding, bike ed, Constable Care, as well as Transperth and Smart Steps sessions.

As you can see, Your Move 2021 is looking to be very exciting at Coolbinia PS! What a great year for active travel is ahead of us ...

Thanks for this extensive update Elaine - now I have a very clear idea of how this is working in with the Your Move Stirling project. You have earned 60 points for the Safe Routes activity, plus a big bonus of 20 point for really outlining it so clearly. Don't forget to update us next year when the stencils go down!

Thanks James. Will do! We are very excited about the stencil activity as it increases our reach to people in the local community, not just parents at our school. Thanks for all the support!
