On Wednesday I had a meeting with Sophie from the City of Wanneroo with other teachers from the area that are also engaged in the Your Move Program. Sophie went through some events that are up and coming as well as looking at some initiatives, grants and fundings that are available to schools.

We then got to have a chat to other school champions about things they are doing at their school and what is working for them. It was particularly interesting to discuss with Sarah from St Francis and the exciting things she is doing at her school as we share similar areas and she explained some of the ways she has overcome barriers, such as being on a busy road. I particularly liked idea of having parents making small changes by encouraging them to park away from the school and walking small distances, then gradually increasing. This is something that I would like to implement at East Butler Primary.

Sophie also discussed the availability of funding for Breakfast to promote National Walk to School Day on the 19th May 2023. This is a great opportunity to engage students in actively walking to school and starting their day with a hearty breakfast. This was a very informative meeting that has given me inspiration and ideas to implement and I look forward to the next meeting!

Emma Jack (Your Move)

Fantastic Amy! Such a bonus to have a Local government network available. Talking with other Champions can really boost our morale. So glad you could attend. That's 25 points for making it to the meeting.
