The EMRC workplace is in very close vicinity to a range of shared paths and options for cycling. Our cycling crew got together on Friday, 16 October to join our local community down at the Belmont Bike Breakfast.

The crew cycled from our Ascot office along the Swan River, past Hardy Park and past the Adachi Park greenery. They stopped to take in the views at the Bilya Kard Boodja Lookout and then on to the Belmont Bike Breakfast at the Goodwood Parade Boat Ramp, Balbuk Reserve.

The ride was not without its mishaps as one of our champions got stuck and had to walk down the hill, as their chain had come off. Luckily another champion in our crew came to the rescue with her mechanical flare and she donned her disposable gloves and replaced the chain in record time.

As we turned the corner at the bottom of the hill it was fabulous to see a sea of bikes and riders, some in their lycra and others in gym gear. The crew was able to have nice chats with fellow riders whilst enjoying a free hot breakfast and coffee.

Many cyclists took advantage of the free Bike Dr services available, to check everything was up to scratch. Once fuelled with coffee and food the group was ready and able to cycle back along the Swan River and return to work.

This event features in the EMRC bike crew’s annual calendar and it is always a very well received event in this spring weather. It is a great initiative which is appreciated by all and we enjoy supporting our local government and their bike events.

Great story, Tarni! And the weather gods were certainly smiling down on you by the looks of things. Your story really captures the joys & benefits of staff joining in in a community event. I'll send the link to Crawford the YM champ at the City of Belmont. I'm sure he'll appreciate the positive feedback. Great to hear too that the event features in your workplace calendar of activities. You have earned 40 points for hosting this staff social ride, plus a bonus 20 for making such a great story of it.
