As Honeywood Primary School already has a regular "Wheels on Wednesday" weekly ride your bike, scooter or roller skate during the school breaks, it was decided that we needed to form a student Your Move Committee to promote this activity.

The committee was formed with 6 year 6 students who are keen to promote being active and Wheels on Wednesday.

At the first committee meeting the team decided they would spend the next few weeks promoting Wheels on Wednesday.

Two activities were decided upon. The first being- Ride, walk or scoot to school.

The event was promoted via Connect to the parents and guardians. The student committee promoted the event via a student PA message on Monday morning.

On Wednesday the 6 team members manned each gate entrance to the school. They wore large- Be Active stickers and greeted all students and parents at the entrances to the school.

They presented students with one sticker if they rode, walked, roller skated or scooted to school. All students had to be wearing a helmet.

If the students parents also had ridden or walked to school with their children the student was awarded another sticker.

For a first event completely run by the Your Move student team it was very successful and we had more students walking, riding, scooting or roller blading to school than most Wednesdays.

Danielle - it is really rewarding to see your YM program developing from its road safety beginnings to what now has a strong focus on active transport itself. Linking to the "start a student team" activity has earned you 60 points plus a bonus 10 points for clearly explaining how your WoW day works.
