Sustainability Club Gets its ‘Move On’

Inspired by a presentation given by GreenBatch founder and sustainability activist Darren Lomman, the student led John XXIII College Student Sustainability Club used their last lunch meeting of term 3 to invite all interested students to brainstorm potential activities and initiatives to encourage sustainability awareness throughout the College.

Along with some very exciting ideas to address waste reduction and energy conservation, it was decided that the Sustainability Club would take on the additional responsibilities of being the John XXIII Your Move Committee. The students were excited by the given brief for the committee: to plan, promote and run Your Move Activities at the College. With the aim to increase awareness amongst their peers of the social and environmental impact of their transport choices and encourage more students to ride, walk or catch public transport to and from school.

The sustainability club all agrees that these goals are perfectly aligned to their sustainability goals and look forward to term 4 and next year as the Your Move Committee begins it’s work in earnest.

Great to see John XXIII kicking off the YM program with a student led brainstorm - and it's wonderful to hear how excited the team is!
