Transport Troopers are BACK for 2020!

Hello Your Move World! After a wonderful start to Your Move last year, Lake Gwelup PS is jumping BACK into our Motor-Free Mondays this upcoming Monday! We have a lot of funky new prizes to hand out to people who arrive at school via active travel, thanks to the funding we received due to achieving GOLD STATUS last year.

Last week, we had our first "Hands Up" Survey and we have discovered that around 65% of students have been arriving by car. We hope to decrease this throughout the rest of the term!

The Transport Troopers (who are now in Year 6) have had their first meeting today. Since we are now seniors in the school, a few of the Troopers have since become Student Councillors and Environmental Officers, expanding on their leadership even more. :)

Since we have nine new staff members starting at our school this year, Miss Webster presented a Sustainability update to all staff members at our last staff meeting. Of course, our success with Your Move was a big feature! It is very exciting that TWO of our new staff members, Mrs Joanna Carlson (Science) and Miss Pam Girardi (Year 1) have jumped onto the Sustainability team! We have written our 2020 action plan today and Miss Girardi has already presented an update at the school board.

Some more things we hope to achieve this year are... continuing Motor-Free Mondays, painting the paths around the school (using the stencils we received from Your Move), making the most of our bike safety excursion (thanks again, Your Move!) and starting a Walking School Bus.

It is all happening here at Lake Gwelup Primary School... watch this space!!
