MBS - Bike to Work

Nothing like a brisk early morning ride to awaken the soul ahead of a stunning day. Our staff are actively engaged in MBS’s fantastic Frequent Active Travel (FAT) Scheme rewarding our employees who choose active travel. The Bicycle Network have proposed a new ride to work scheme for Australia (https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/newsroom/2019/04/11/pay-to-ride-to-work/) similar to the MBS Environmental FAT Scheme to promote and reward active transport to and from work. We think this would be fabulous, don’t you?

Wow! You have just earned 80 points for providing an active travel allowance to staff. We would love to know more about it. How many staff use it? And does public transport count?

Hi Kylie, we have had this scheme in place since late 2014. You can earn points 3 ways. Active Travel (cycling, running, walking - getting to work on your own poer), Assisted Transport (use of public transport or other transport involving some exercise) or Alternative Passive Transport ( Transport methosids that assist with parking, reducing emissions and congestion such as Motorbike, scooter, car pooling) These point then can be used to purchase something health related, smart riders etc.

You can also use the points to contribute to a charity which MBS will then match 1 for 1. If you would like more information please email me - dsims@mbsenvironmental.com.au

Hi Diane, what a great way to encouage staff to choose more active and sustainable ways to get to work. I like the way you reward all modes that reduce single occupancy car trips. You can earn points every year for these sort of initiatives - just provide us with a bit of an update or how it is going or even better give the network some tips on how to set up their own FAT scheme.
