Medina Primary School participates in TREK2School Survey!

Last Term Medina Primary School had a visit from Anna Gannett, the Project Coordinator at Telethon Kids Institute for the TREK2School Study. Anna attended our school’s active travel event and spoke at the assembly to talk to students and parents about the opportunity to contribute to this important research! Students and parents at Medina Primary School in 2005 took the same survey that students and parents will take this year, which will show if students have changed their transport habits over time. The TREK2School Study is being led by Telethon Kids Institute and the University of Western Australia in partnership with the WA Department of Transport!

We’re excited for this opportunity for students in Year 5-6 and their parents/carers to provide valuable information about traffic, safety, and parking at Medina Primary School. Students in Years 5-6 and their parents/carers were invited to take surveys about student journeys to school. 39% of students recently completed the survey. The survey asked questions about current modes of transport, preferred mode of transport, barriers to walking and riding to school, and a range of social and environmental factors related to walking and riding to school. We’re looking forward to receiving comprehensive data about barriers to walking and riding to school so that we can address these barriers and make it safer and easier for our students to travel to school.

On a broader scale, our school is happy to be contributing to important research about primary school students across Perth that could help to inform programs like Your Move!

Welcome back for Term 3 😀! Thanks for sharing how Medina PS is getting involved in this important study. You have earned 60 points for facilitating this survey at your school and 10 points for sharing all the details. Don't forget to let us know if you have any plans for events or activities this term - perhaps you are promoting Winter Walk to School Week in August? Have a wonderful weekend!
