Planning Day

On Tuesday 2nd March, together with the student leadership team, Mindarie Primary School planned and conducted a whole school transport survey. The leadership team discussed modes of transport currently used by the Mindarie community and created a template for the hands up survey. Students then visited each class explained and conducted the survey for whole school data. Students in some of the early childhood classes were questioned individually to obtain the correct data. Results were collated and then submitted to the 'Your Move' website. The data showed that 67% of students/families were travelling to school via car. In collaboration with the leadership team, we deemed it would be beneficial to organise a 'Walk/Ride to School Day' each term to promote less traffic congestion around the school and encourage families to build safe and healthy habits for walking to school. Our first 'Walk/Ride to School Day' will take place on Friday 19th March. Further planning also took place about conducting another survey after the end of term 2 to see if our walking to school data has improved. We can't wait to get our community involved.

James (Your Move)

Hi Keryn - great to hear that your Student Leadership team have leapt aboard the Your Move program! I have linked your story to the activity "Start a student team and have your first meeting", which has given you 60 points. You also received 10 points for outlining in detail how the team organised the survey and embraced the idea of a R2SD event.
