Sustainability Promotion in Newsletter

Sharnie Stuart

Every fortnight Mount Lawley Primary School (MLPS) issues its newsletter. The MLPS's Traffic Management Group (which consists of volunteer parents) prepares key messages associated with road safety, Your Move stories, walking/ riding/ scootering to school events, and general traffic matters.

The most recent newsletter promoted 'Park it for the Planet', a sustainability initiative that focusses on leaving the cars at home to walk, ride or scoot to school. Prior to this newsletter MLPS shared the success of the Your Move 'Connecting to Schools Grant' event.

Different topics are selected each fortnight and shared with the school community to ensure they are abreast of important traffic topics. Here's a few examples of MLPS's traffic newsletter articles.

Hi Sharnie - you clearly are making the most of your newsletter for promoting active travel at Mt Lawley - your Term 3 newsletter update has earned you 22 points. How did your "Park it for the Planet" event go? Don't forget to give us the inside story!

Thanks James. The event went really well! Lots of kids rode and walked to school, to the extent where my daughter said, 'we'll need to expand the paths soon ;-)'.
