2022 Reflection

Heather Barrett

Wow! It has been a very busy year at Neerigen Brook PS - so much going on! Let's see if I can remember everything in one post...

Rain, hail, or shine, our lucky Year 5s and 6s participated in bike education sessions.

And the ECE folks worked hard to get the Kindy and Pre-Primaries on bikes.

New ECE families were invited in for the Kindy Orientation to hear all about what we do as a school. Every Kindy enrolment pack contained one of the safe routes to school brochures that we were fortunate to have made last year.

Staff and students from the Follow the Dream program at Cecil Andrews College walked over to officiate our NAIDOC week footy match.

Staff used public transport to showcase our learning at the Kelmscott Show, which was a huge source of pride for the school community.

We used R U OK Day as an opportunity for an active travel day, encouraging students to ride, walk or scooter to school with the oh-so-tasty incentive of a sausage sizzle.

We hosted the inaugural Compass Expo and invited a variety of community visitors to come and speak to the Year 6s about the exciting things awaiting them at high school. We had visitors who walked from the nearby feeder school, and others who caught the bus from up town. Talking about sustainable travel was a great segue into having the Year 6s give our sustainability garden some TLC.

We were also honoured to be recognised as finalists in the 2022 Your Move Awards. Not only was it a wonderful opportunity to catch up with other schools and community partners, but we were able to hear about the amazing projects in progress at various schools and sites around the state. Plenty of inspiration for next year!

Not pictured: National Ride 2 School Day, Walk to School Day, and a handful of Year 6 transition activities that I cannot seem to find photos of....I feel there is a New Year's Resolution in there somewhere.

Between it all, we have had opportunities to strengthen our commitment to the aims of the Your Move program through the ESAT review process, finalising our business plan and strategic plan, refining our infrastructure plan, as well as making many (read: too many) strategic decisions for next year.

We are so excited to see what 2023 has in store - could it possibly be our long-dreamed-of bike track??? Either way, with our bike shelter beginning construction bright and early on Monday morning, I am sure we will have plenty to work with.

Thanks for sharing that inspiring summary of 2022 Your Move at Neerigen Brook, Heather. I particularly like how you have linked YM into so many other activities and structures - your orientation processes and Compass Expo amongst others. I have no doubt that 2023 will be another inspiring year 😁. You have earned 15 points for taking the time to reflect on 2022 and 20 points for giving us all sometime to aspire too! Have a wonderful week 😊.
