Crazy about Carpooling

Heading into Term 3, it's more important than ever that we stay on top of things, but that can often lead to crazy working hours! As our health and wellbeing focus for the year is work-life balance, we've given a lot of thought and consideration as to how we can achieve our goals without sacrificing our precious down time.

We asked around, and the number one issue that staff reported was long days - staying a while after the bell, leaving late, missing dinner...None of the good stuff!

The perfect strategy appeared out of nowhere - carpooling! While we don't have many staff (averaging 20-30 on a good day), we are lucky enough to have people living in the same areas. A little conversation around the staff room table led to informal carpool buddies being established.

The great thing about having a carpool buddy is that you feel obliged to leave on time - it's rude to keep people waiting!

This serendipitous strategy has led to our Deputies regularly leaving a little after four o'clock (basically a historic achievement!) and has cut down on the amount of out of hours phone calls required to brainstorm solutions to day-to-day challenges. Of course, the effects on our carbon output cannot be discounted either!

Great initiative, everyone at NBPS 😊! I'm glad to hear that the Deputies have joined in too. How many staff would you say are involved at this stage? You have earned 60 points for this carpool initiative and 10 points for sharing how it all came about.

Hey James, we are up to 4 pairs of staff who regularly carpool, and a few stragglers who jump in occasionally. I'm dreaming of some kind of suburbs map to display in the staff room to make it easier to match people up - I'll make sure to share a little more about that idea when it finally comes to fruition :)

You could consider an access guide like this in our shop: https://www.yourmove.org.au/rewards-shop/map-your-move-to-school-access-guide/ or maybe using Transperth's maps here: https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Journey-Planner/Network-Maps Maps 6 and 8 include Armadale
