Car Space Challenge

Noranda Primary School

Gaining inspiration from our Your Move meeting earlier this year, the Your Move team undertook the task to challenge our students to think about what they could do with the car spaces should the staff use public transport, walk or ride their bikes to school.

With the gauntlet thrown down, Mrs Norvall, one of our amazing EA's took on the challenge! She created an almost life size Skee Ball game that was wildly popular with the students and hands down the winner!

Other uses for the car bays included mini trampolining, mini golf, tallest tower challenge ( a very close second) chalk drawing, quoits, hands and feet hopscotch, a giant parachute, target throwing and ten pin bowling.

Classes rotated through the games and were given 20 minutes to play. They were assisted by our army of volunteers who helped to reset the games between classes.

To top it all, all staff parked and walked into school showing the students that communities are always better when we work together. The multiple new car bays provided by the City of Bayswater across our oval were well utilized as teachers parked and walked, while many car pooled. Delivery drivers also got in on the act and parked outside and walked their parcels to the door!

A huge success for our second last event of 2021!

I love your innovation here Tracey - what a great way to prompt staff to do a bit more active travel, and also to stimulate students to think about the impact of parking spaces and some alternatives. I love it 😍. You have earned 40 points for the event, a bonus 30 points for the innovative nature and another 20 points for sharing so much detail.
