Term 4 is always a busy time of year for schools and at Noranda PS it has been no exception as the school prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary tonight.
Likewise, the student Your Move Road Safety team have been busy on the PA system every day this week promoting the first of our Wheely Fun Fridays (WFF) which happened this morning. This promotion over the PA was further reinforced with a notice in the school newsletter.
This first event day celebrated all things bicycles to acknowledge WA Bike Month and encouraged Noranda PS kids to get on their bikes for the trip to school. This morning the YM road safety student team were waiting to greet students as they arrive at the bike cage on their bicycles, scooters and on foot with a basket load of prizes, donated by the City of Bayswater, plus a sticker and a raffle ticket. The Your Move Bike Safety 101 information sheet was also handed out to students and families to ensure kids are not only riding to school but doing so safely!
The raffle draw has some awesome prizes including a $200 TBE voucher (supplied through the Your Move grants program), a $100 & $50 Georges Bike Shop voucher and 3 smaller runners up prizes which include a Micro bike bell, (all supplied through the WA bike month Westcycle grant). So, thank you Your Move and Westcycle for helping to make our event more exciting to participate in!
A total of 59 tickets were handed out to students of which 24 arrived by bicycle, 14 by scooter, 1 by skateboard and 20 on foot. This number doesn’t include all the fantastic parents and younger siblings who accompanied the students on the ride and walk this morning. Looking at the bike rack photos taken last Friday and today, you can see that the event day really encouraged a heap more students to get active on their way to school this morning!
This WFF event for Bike Month kick starts our fortnightly ride, walk and scoot to school days for Term 4.
