We just submitted the Term 2 “Hands Up” travel survey on the 2nd of June 2021. Thank you to our brilliant Your Move student team for going from class to class on Wednesday, to collect the important data! We have noticed a significant decrease in car use compared to March 2021. It was wonderful to see that many students were using the active travel means by riding, cycling or walking to school. An overall positive trend reducing the numbers of students travelling by car this term. Well done to our families!

Based on this student sample the percentage trend shows 15% increase in cycling and 19% increase in walking with a 15% reduction in driving from March 2021. In absolute numbers from this sample, there is an overall increase in active travel of 120 versus 86 from the previous “Hands Up” Travel Survey. The survey comparison shows the driving trend has decreased greatly from 57% to 42% and our active transport has increased noticeably from 41% to 57%.

The Your Move program is buzzing at Scarborough Primary and our team continues to create more ‘active travel initiatives’ to increase and maintain active travel every day. One of the main activities throughout this term, is our two Active Travel Days per week! We continue to reflect on more ways to continue to educate students about active travel to and from school with the aim to reduce travelling by car even further. Scarborough Primary School is very proud of our achievements in the Your Move program so far this year, not only the winners of the March sign up competition. But, we are delighted that the Your Move sign board is up with our first silver accreditation badge for 2020 is displayed in the undercover area for our school community to see, thus encouraging more students and families to take up active travel.
