50 Students Walk to School Together

On Wednesday and Friday mornings in Term 2 between 7:45 and 8:15am, our Phys Ed teacher, Mr Breen, has been providing Cross Country training to the students at St Augustine's Primary.

Parents bring their children to our local park, J A Lee Reserve, at 7:45am and after training has finished, Mr Breen and our Yr 4 teacher, Mr Pensini, help the students to safely walk the 600 meters journey the rest of the way to school to school. This is a great opportunity for the students who otherwise don't have an opportunity to walk to school, to experience and learn about safe active travel. We are regularly having attendance of about 50 students.

There are plenty of opportunities along the way to learn about road rules. Stop, look, listen and think.

And opportunities to discuss how active travel eases traffic congestion. On these mornings, there is a marked difference in the number of cars in the car park and surrounding the school at drop off.

Nice one Mr Breen and Mr Pensini. All these initiatives add up to help students make using active travel a normal part of life. You have all earned 25 points this regular walking from the local park and 10 points for your engaging story.
