World car free Day at Swan View P S

Here we are at the end of another busy year and no doubt one we will all remember, or wish to forget. one for the history books for sure.

A gentle reminder from Carol –Anne regarding our end of year active transport survey has reminded me that I didn’t do a post on our 4th active transport day that happened way back on September the 22nd. “World car free day” A warm milo was provided to all the students who walked, cycled, scootered or used public transport to get to school. The canteen manager Teresa once again joined in on the promotion of the event by putting a car hash brown on the menu. The day was considered a great success with more bikes in the bike racks and several new walking busses being created. I am pleased to say that over the past couple of years more students are riding their bicycles to school on a regular basis.

I'm glad you remembered that one Gordon! Your Car Free Day event has earned you 40 points, plus a bonus of 10 for not skimping on the details. I see your canteen manager has gone all creative again - love it! Remember you can earn another 25 points by sharing a 'pledge' for 2021 - details here: https://www.yourmove.org.au/your-move-schools-team/ym-awards-photo-pledge-comp-winner/

Also - do you have any more details on the WSB routes you mentioned? Were they set up especially for the day? How did it work?

Thanks James, yes we are so lucky with our canteen manager, not only has she achieved 5 bstar accreditation for producing healthy meals she is always promotes our events with creative ideas. The WSB were ad hoc and set up just for the day, however some students have continued to walk together to school.

Great idea to run some WSBs especially for your event Gordon - and it has earned you another 25 points! It is a nice way to help more kids participate and also is a good introduction to the WSB concept.
