Act Belong Commit and Your Move

Thornlie Senior High School is a member of Mentally Healthy Schools and this provides us with a framework to embed Act Belong Commit within the classroom, school environment and broader school community to protect and improve the mental health and wellbeing of students, staff and wider school community. Being active, finding a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to good mental health and wellbeing. We encourage students and staff to get involved in activities that they enjoy.

Some examples of students and staff being Active, finding a sense of Belonging and having a purpose in life, Commit, at school include the recently formed Running Club. This club is meeting at 0745hrs before school on a Friday and running 5km, staff and students are running/walking.

Our students who are involved with Your Move are also looking after their own mental health by having a sense of belonging and a purpose of promoting active travel to and from school. The Your Move team have been busy getting ready for Walk2School Day.

We celebrated Walk2School day on Friday where we encouraged students to walk to school. When students arrived after walking, they were given a raffle ticket to go in the draw for prizes like canteen vouchers, Act Belong Commit baseball caps or water bottles. Winners were drawn during homeroom and students had to come to the office with their winning ticket. See some of our winners below.

Staff also do things to contribute to their own good mental health. The Community Health Nurse, Sue, recently participated in the Mother’s Day Classic, raising money for Breast Cancer Research.
