We had a great day yesterday, our Ride2School Day, for 2021. Students were greeted by smiling faces, given a piece of fruit, a raffle ticket for riding and an extra raffle ticket if they had a helmet. We ended up with 86 students riding bikes, scooters and skateboards that we know of. We had 3 staff ride, 2 on bicycles and one her broomstick!

The raffle prizes included 5 x $50 K Mart vouchers from Mr Chris Tallentire, MLA for Thornlie, 10 x $5 canteen vouchers from the Nelson Family, 5 drink bottle cages for bikes from Trek Bicycle Cannington, a Your Move backpack from Mr Beecham, and a range of Your Move merchandise including some bike pumps and drink bottles. The raffle was drawn after the 50th Anniversary photo was taken as everyone who participated in the photo received another raffle ticket.

We had a number of younger students who rode yesterday for the first time, which was fantastic.

The bike racks were the fullest I have ever seen them. I have been counting the bikes in the compound almost every week for the term and on average there have been 55 scooters and bikes there. Even on Hands Up survey day, there was only 52 bikes and scooters (even though 76 students said that they rode or scooted). I think that we may have had an extra 31 students riding or scooting to school, a 56% increase, which is a excellent result.

Thornlie Senior High School finished the day with the Colour Run and so some of those students were able to ride home, very colourful and soaking wet! It was wonderful seeing the smiles and grins on student faces.

I must say when I saw that first photo I was wondering what the broom was about - is Thornlie they first school in WA to start a sourcery program? Regardless, great to see another staff member ditching the car along with all the other participants! Combining the day with the colour run has added a whole new level of vibrancy and fun - great idea. You have earned 40 point for your R2SD event plus 20 points for sharing all those extra elements with us. Have a fantastic and well earned weekend!
