Thornlie Senior High School run a homeroom class 4 days a week, 15 minutes long, that is made up of students from years 7 to 12. Three times a term a Positive Behaviour Support lesson is run in homeroom across the whole school. On Tuesday the PBS lesson was on Your Move. The learning intention was to inform the school community about TSHS being a Your Move school and to encourage students and their families to consider walking, riding, scooting and catching public transport to school. Our success criteria is a 10% decrease in car pick ups and drop offs this year. We informed the school community on what we had been doing, what we had achieved and why we were a Your Move school. It was exciting to have the whole school learn about Your Move and hopefully begin some behaviour change. Imbedded in the lesson was a pushup challenge for the homerooms to get the students doing a little physical activity. We have attached a PDF of the lesson if anyone is interested.
We are hopeful the lesson will make a positive difference to the number of students who ride or scoot to school, but we had 40 bikes and scooters in the bike compound on Tuesday and only 36 today. The school nurse did have to count the bikes in misty rain today so the weather may have had a big impact today on who chose not to ride or scoot!
We can't wait to see if there is a difference in the number of students riding, scooting, walking or catching at bus when we do our Hands Up survey in term 4.
