At Warnbro Community High School, our Health and Physical Education team plan Mountain Biking Sessions throughout the year for our students in the Outdoor Recreation classes. The aims of the sessions are as follows:

· Develop Planning skills
· Develop leadership skills
· Develop self-management in a mountain biking context
· Develop skills to negotiate obstacles
· Develop gear selection skills for uphill, downhill and flat riding
· Develop breaking skills
· Develop group riding skills
· Exercise navigation skills
· Develop pacing skills

The sessions involve completing trails ranging from 5-20km in length, depending on environmental conditions and student ability. Here is a snippet from an article we had written for a previous Bulletin:

'Spirits were high and the weather forecast was looking great. Our Year 12 Outdoor Recreation students met with Dirty Detours at The Pines near Margaret River for a day of Mountain Biking. After a quick briefing we hit the trails which were long downhill runs full of berms, jumps, tight corners, steep descents and of course, uphill rides at the end of each run. This challenging environment saw all students pushed to their limits.'

Great stuff Kierah! Having a good time (and having the skills to do so!) is one of the best ways to motivate kids to be riding. I have relinked your story to the "Bike Education" activity which is worth 80 points and I have also given you a bonus 10 for making this story such a good read. Have a great break and see you in term 4!
