Summer & Kyal prepared this report on our Walk to School Day:

On Friday the 20th October, we hosted Walk to School Day (W2SD.) We had a total of 112 students (plus 43 parents) using Active Transport. Our hosted walks started at each of our Guarded Crossings ( Fairmile St, Warnbro Sound Ave & Currie St.) We ran this event to encourage people to use Active Transport to come to school. 112 students participated equalling to 43% of the school.

We invited some community people as our guest walkers. We invited 4 but unfortunately not all could attend. Deb Hamblin, City of Rockingham Deputy Mayor, and Rhiarn Baker, COR Community Development Officer (Health & Well-being) were our guest walkers for the day.

Some happy walkers! (Deb Hamblin & our gardener, Gary Withers, joining students for W2SD.)

Mentor's note: Beautiful weather made this year's W2SD even better. The YM Team served platters of fruit & vegetables at recess as extra celebration. Also a big thank you to Deb & Rhiarn for joining us. We have decided that although Walk Over October, which was initiated by the Heart Foundation, no longer officially exists, we will continue to run our own W2SD during Term 4. After all, before WOO there was Make Tracks to School in which we always participated!

Thanks for a great report! Excellent work in getting representatives from the local council involved. Did you notice whether many of the families who walked on this day are new to walking / riding to school?
