Your Move Committee Meeting

We held our first Your Move committee meeting this week to analyze our survey data and discuss where to from here.

Our main barriers that we feel reduce active travel are; distance, time restraints, work commitments, safety and lack of awareness of health benefits.

After much discussion we brainstormed some ideas that we thought may promote active travel within our school community.

Firstly, the children decided that having a surprise reward day would be a good idea. Our committee members plan to stand at the gates and hand out raffle tickets to those children that participate in active travel by riding a bike or scooter and walking to school. We also decided that we shouldn't penalize those children that came from before school care on a bus. The consensus was that those children were participating in a shared ride, which in turn assists in sustainability. We will then draw out some prizes at our final assembly.

We had many interesting conversations around some bigger projects for 2021, which we hope we will be able to tackle at the beginning of next year.

What a productive committee meeting! I think your surprise reward day could work really well as a first activity. It is simpler to organise that an all-out event, but it will be an effective way to grab attention for a launch of Your Move. I have linked your story to the "Team meeting term 4" activity which gives you 10 points, plus a bonus 10 for sharing all your thoughts and outcomes. We look forward to hearing how the event goes!
