In order to show recognition and support throughout National Road Safety Week 2021, the teachers at Wellard Primary School pledged to 'Drive So That Others Survive!'. This pledge generated lots of conversations amongst teachers regarding the safety of our students and smart decision making on the road. We are so lucky that so many teachers want to get involved to spread awareness.

This Friday, each of our teachers wore a yellow ribbon to show that every life matters and that we are committed to helping make our roads safer. Our students enjoyed speaking with different teachers as they found our more about why we were wearing them. Hopefully, they were able to pass on the message of awareness of road safety to their parents and families.

At our school assembly, our Your Move team took the opportunity to thank our wonderful traffic warden, Ms Fitzgerald and raise awareness about road safety. Our leaders shared some facts about the trauma that can occur on the roads. Our Your Move student leaders presented our traffic warden with a certificate and a small token of appreciation from the Wellard Primary Community. Come rain, hail or shine, our traffic warden is always there to help guide our students to school safely. We are very lucky to have such a friendly member of the community who is so committed to helping our students and families. Her work is greatly appreciated!

Brilliant initiative Bella! Thanks so much for sharing. I love how you used the ribbons to generate conversations and also linked it into the assembly item. You have earned 25 points for your assembly, 25 for your pledge activity (plus 30 bonus 'innovation' points) and 10 points for sharing all the details. The teacher pledge could also work well in conjunction with our activity "Collect parent pledges". See you soon!
