Safe Crossing Application Under Way

To compliment all of the great work our school community, volunteers, students, teachers and school staff are doing with the Your Move Program, the WDPS P&C also has an application in progress with the Children's Crossing Unit for a Manned Crossing on Hale Road.
Hale Rd is an incredibly busy road and with 78 current WDPS students having to cross Hale Road to get to school, having an attended crosswalk will mean more kids will walk, ride or scoot to school. It will provide a safe crossing, more incentive for kids to choose an active way to get to school and reduce traffic congestion and safety risks around the school.
President of the WDPS P&C Kitty Prodonovich said " We know that families who live south of Hale Road are nervous about letting their kids ride or walk to school even with their supervision, so to have a manned crossing would remove that concern. Our P&C is incredibly supportive of the Your Move Program and loves all the great outcomes we are seeing so far. Our kids are loving it! We unanimously agreed to fund improvements to our bike storage infrastructure because it is just so important for our school community. If our application is successful it will be another piece of the puzzle in encouraging more physical activity, reducing traffic congestion around the school and keeping our kids safe."
The Children's Crossing Unit will next meet in May and we all have our fingers crossed that the application will be successful as it will compliment all of the hard work everyone has been putting into the Your Move program.
