WBPS Walk Safely To School Day 2020

Lisa Ziaja
West Beechboro Primary School

On Friday 11th September, West Beechboro PS [WBPS] promoted 'Walk Safely to School Day'. The girls from Girls' STEM Club created posters using digital media and these were displayed around the school and on Seesaw and Facebook.

On the day, students who walked (rode or scooted) to school were awarded a faction token and the class with the most walkers received a playtime reward of extra recess time on the Funky Monkey playground.

We had a big increase in students walking to school from the previous survey that we conducted for your move, which was only 20% of our students. On WSTSD we had 45% of our students walk or ride their bike or scooter to school. The winning class had 63% of students walk to school.

Firstly, I'm very glad to see that (funky) monkey bars are back in fashion at West Beechboro - and what a great reward to link in with your WS2SD event! Who could say no to the image shown on your poster of friendship and socialisation on the way to school? Clearly the promotion worked well with such good participation rates. You have earned 40 points for your event, 10 points for sharing the resulting AT results and another 10 for making your story such a good read. Make sure you let us know if your STEM girls are your YM team or if you get a team together in some other way.
