Just in time for the school holidays our Your Move Ambassadors organised a free bike check for students, through a Your Move grant.

Fifty students from years 4-6 were keen to bring their bike to school to be checked over. To promote the opportunity a note to students was prepared, and posters were put up around the school.

Two bike mechanics set up early and worked throughout most of the day! They changed cables where needed and even put new tubes in some bikes. Bike seats were adjusted as were brakes and gears.

At lunchtime students were able to test their newly-serviced bikes by riding around the oval, and received advice from the mechanics on how to care for their bikes.

If the bike required more work, a note was attached to the handlebar with a detailed description of what was required.

We heard stories from the mechanics about some West Australian riders now in the Tour de France who started out just like us, riding around the neighbourhood then taking up cycling with a bike club.

Thank you to Cycle Sense and Cyclemania in North Perth for providing exceptional free bike checks and advice.
