This term we commenced the Your Move Program after our school champion attended a Your Move information session in Term 4, 2020. We started the year off by recommencing Walk and Roll Wednesdays from the first week of term.

Early in the term we completed our first ‘Hands Up’ survey before forming a student team and hosting a visit with Sam and Dave from Your Move who assisted our champion with navigating the website and how to create stories before our first student meeting. The students were really enthusiastic about the benefits to the environment by promoting active travel and creating events for the year ahead.

We then began organising R2SD and promoting the colouring competition associated with it. Constable Care was organised for our junior primary too to promote active travel and teach them how to do it safely. Orders were placed to spend our points for prizes for R2SD including, stickers, badges, snap bands, books, drink bottles, compact mirrors, bike bells and star cards. Another meeting was organised with the student captains to plan out the morning and assign which gates the captains would stand at to give out stickers to participating students.

The day went off well and with great success. However, in reflection communication could have been better and it would have been great to have more staff and parent involvement in order to create more of a day to remember with fun activities during the day such as creating a bike obstacle course or slow bike races.

Finally, our end of Term 1 newsletter is full of Your Move information including R2SD, introduction to Your Move and our first ‘Hands Up’ survey data. We look forward to continuing to build upon a successful start.

Here is a link to our school Facebook Page which shows some Your Move updates including the introduction video of our Your Move Captains and information on the program to inspire our community, our newsletter can also be found here.
