Walking Groups - What's your reason?

Yesterday we took to the park with some of our wonderful walking group members and enjoyed a lovely walk in celebration of 10 years partnership with Act Belong Commit!

Joined by the Mayor walkers shared some favourite walking group memories and what they loved most about being a part of their walking group community. It was unanimous - walking group is so much more than just a walk in the park. Of course everyone noted the physical benefits of feeling fit and healthy but what resonated the most with everyone and what is perhaps the major contributing factor to the walking groups continued success was the social benefits!

Belonging to the group, coming together for a walk and coffee and catching up on the latest gossip, personal milestones, new family additions or upcoming events - that's what makes it so enjoyable.

I think it's important to remember the bigger picture. We all know why we 'should' take part in activities such as walking - but at the end of the day we all need to have that one reason that motivates us to want to KEEP living an active lifestyle - be it friends, fitness or fun!

Find your reason and once you do - there is a CoG walking group waiting for you!

Hi Peta, I totally agree, as program providers, we have our reasons for promoting walking, cycling or public transport but to motivate people to get involved we really have to connect with their reasons. What a great iniative! So impressive that it has been going for 10 years. Feel free to promote it via our 'Whats On' page.
