Bicycle safety checks

Murdoch University has, for the last few years, partnered with People on Bicycles to carry out bike safety and maintenance checks. This is normally carried out once per year but in 2023 we obtained internal funding to hold these monthly between August and November (inclusive).

These checks are carried out on the central Bush Court during Guild Market Days, and are free for staff and students. Booking is carried out via the People on Bicycles online booking form, and also via drop-ins on a first-come-first served basis. People on Bicycles also keep a waiting list, should any bookings be cancelled. Holding these in conjunction with Guild Market Days ensures that there is a significant amount of staff and students on Bush Court to promote the service, and cycling in general.

The service has proved very popular. A total of 39 people registered 49 bikes, with an additional 11 drop-ins, giving a total of 50 people and 60 bikes taking part in this initiative.

Thanks for the Q4 update on your monthly bike checks Leah - that has earned you 50 points. You also get a bonus 20 "outstanding" points for having run this monthly 😊 and 15 points for your story content. 60 smooth runnning bikes to and from MU is an excellent outcome!
