Opening of the Links Road Safe Street.

This year we have had some major road works along links road, outside our school. The city of Melville has created a ‘safe street,’ the purpose being to encourage our students and broader community to use this space to actively commute. On Thursday, we celebrated the opening of our new safe street with an epic ride to school day! To say it was a success would be an understatement, we had fairies on hover boards, fresh fruit, free coffee for parents, penny farthing bikes for the parents and students to have a go on and the Mayor of Melville made an appearance! One of the highlights for the students and parent community was Aunty Marie doing a welcome to country. Marie also did a blessing in language and named the path ‘Koolanka Bidee’ which means children’s path in Noongar. It was such a special morning, and everyone involved had nothing but good things to say. A massive thanks to Ruth and The City of Melville for being so supportive and helping create a safe and enjoyable environment. 😊

What an event, Rhys, and you have captured it so well in your story and photos. I love the look of those modern day "Mulga Bill" penny farthings! Lovely too that Auntie Marie was so appreciated. You have earned 40 points for your Ride to School event, plus 10 points for giving us such an engaging story 😊.
