Our first Smoothie Bike Race!

Third time lucky! After having to postpone the Green Team's first Smoothie Bike Race event twice last week on Thursday and Friday due to the bad weather, we were finally able to run the race today at lunch time! We had over 20 students sign up to participate in the bike race from Year 7-11, over 10 members of the Green Team helping with setting up the race course, smoothie bike, making smoothies, collecting money, signing in participants, and more than half of our whole school out on the oval cheering on the participants of the race, working the smoothie bike to blend the smoothies and purchasing them.

Thank you to everyone involved, especially the Green Team who organised another fantastic event to encourage students at BSC to actively travel to school and live a sustainable lifestyle. A big thanks also to Leigh who MC'ed the bike race for us. This is the first of many Green Team events that will use our new Smoothie Bike to encourage students to ride to school. Thanks to everyone who came and had a ride on the smoothie bike and bought a smoothie - today we had the choice of a chocolate milkshake or a mango and banana smoothie. YUM!

To ensure fairness, the Green Team organised three separate races, so we had a Year 7 and 8 race, a Year 9 and 10 race and a Year 11 race. The winner from each race received a $50 Rebel Sport voucher and everyone who participated in the race will be invited on the Mountain Biking excursion that will take place at the end of this term.

Phew - I'm relieved to hear that the race finally happened 🤩! It sounds like it was a well organised event and really engaged the students to get out on their bikes - well done. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a "slow bike race" but that is the closest activity we have, so I have linked you story to that, earning you 30 points plus 20 for a great write-up. How DID the race work? And how did the smoothie bike fit in?
