Walk Safely to School Day/week

The Green Team have been very busy this week promoting Walk Safely to School day. We had 3 days of activities planned and executed expertly.

Tuesday - Scavenger Hunt. The Green Team members were stationed around the school and participants needed to find them and answer the question they had to get the next clue. The questions were all based around Your Move such as: What percentage of students walk and ride to school? Why is it important to reduce car congestion? and What ways are considered sustainable travel? It was a hit with the students and those that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd secured themselves a place in a 2 hour Skateboard session with Skateboard WA (through the rewards shop).

Wednesday - Walking race. Students had to walk through the stations the Green Team had set up. The stations included push ups, hula hooping, skipping and beating a Green Team member at rock, paper, scissors. Again, those that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd secured themselves a place in a 2 hour Skateboard session with Skateboard WA (through the rewards shop).

Friday - Walk Safely to School Day. The Green Team were out this morning giving tickets to the Healthy Breakfast. The Healthy Breakfast we provided were muffins and a piece of fruit. Food Technology were kind enough to cook the muffins for us and they were delicious :)

On reflection of our activities we are needing to go back to the drawing board on how we advertise for our events and we will need to look at how we give out tickets for those who walk and ride to school. Some of our students at BSC are in their own worlds as they are walking through the gates and aren't really paying attention to The Green Team when being offered free food......... We are thinking some student feedback is in order

What a big week and a big day! It is a great idea to have these events in the lead up to the day - it should really cement the idea of AT into the minds. You have earned 40 points for your WS2SD event plus 30 for your lead up activities. Your detailed explanations have earned you a bonus 10, plus another bonus for your reflections on ways to improve next time. I'll be interested to hear how the skate sessions go.
