Celebrating WA bike month in the Junction

Late in the morning of Wednesday October 27, the school yard fell silent, and the sound of bicycle bells filled the air in the streets of Gascoyne Junction as the Community Resource Centre (CRC) and the students from Gascoyne Junction Remote Community School celebrate WA Bike Month.

Students began with a refresher in hand signals for safe riding before making their way from the School to the Pavilion using different routes in town to meet up with the staff from the CRC at the Town Pavilion.

Bikes were parked in the shade out the front of the Pavilion, and it was time to chat a little more about bike safety and the importance of choosing the right clothes to wear when riding your bike, and the importance of checking your bike is safe to ride.

Sometime was spent colouring a special worksheet and thinking of the ways that we can be bike safe. The CRC staff also gave each student a tyre repair kit for their bikes to help keep them safe.

To make sure the students had enough energy to ride back to school a sausage sizzle was shared for lunch with some delicious fruit for dessert. A fun day was had by all.

The event was made possible by a grant from West Cycle and the Department of Transport that the Shire of Upper Gascoyne received.

Hi Blanche! And a BIG welcome back to everyone at Gascoyne Junction 😊. Firstly I must say that you have written a really nice story Blanche - you have really captured the day at Gascoyne Junction and that has earned you a bonus 20 points on top of everything else. I like how you have incorporated road safety into the day's events. Getting GJRCS involved in Bike Month has earned you 40 points and applying for the grant brings in another 40 points too 😊! Hope to hear from you all again soon!
