Your Move Awards Breakfast

Hillcrest Primary School Principal Liz Ford and I attended the biannual Your Move Awards Breakfast at UWA this morning, both to celebrate our own achievements and hear the inspirational stories and actions in this space around WA.

Congratulations to the students, staff and parents in schools for the recognition they received for their amazing projects. We took away ideas and plenty of reasons to keep going in our school to inspire families to step out of cars and try different active transport options.

It was lovely to meet Bayswater local Michelle Prior, Director Active Transport and Safety, Department of Transport, and be reminded of the incredibly important skills students learn from walking or wheeling to school. It is a simple and fun way for students to improve planning skills, improve spatial awareness and learn how to move around safely in their environment. These are all essential skills for our children to become independent and active adults.

Thank you to the Minister for Transport, Hon Rita Saffioti MLA and Chris Tallentire MLA for their commitment to building active transport infrastructure in WA. And a big thank you to the Your Move team for all of your hard work. We look forward to working with you in 2021. I think I will now have to put on my bucket list taking my bike to Hyden, so I can ride to Wave Rock.
