A new year, and new students have bought some creative ideas to encouraging active travel at OPS. Our first class meeting at the beginning of the year, highlighting what is involved for the Yr 3s and Yr 4s, outlining their roles and responsibilities, and what we need to achieve this year. Looking at the data from the hands up survey, we are going to focus on getting more kids to drive and walk halfway to school. Our aim is to get the whole school car usage to under the 60% by the end of the year.

This term, we have reintroduced and begun regular PA announcements during the week to remind students about Fitness For Fun Friday. We continue to hand out of stickers and tattoos each Friday for kids coming to school actively, and introduce prizes for special events like the NR2SD, to kick start the year.

The prizes for NR2SD were impressive. The last assembly of the term today, culminated in a prize draw for anyone who came to school actively on the day. By using incentives, we found the bike racks were a lot fuller compared to earlier this year. I think, the new Your Move monitors, have made a difference this term, reminding everyone to be more active.

As you can see, the last assembly for the term, was a big hit for just coming to school actively.

What a brilliant culmination to Term 1 Ruth 😁. Your team look SO happy with all the bikes in the parking area - and rightly so! You have earned 90 points for your Fitness For Fun Fridays, 50 for your AT rewards this term, and 40 for joining in NR2SD! Your "drive and walk halfway" campaign is very interesting - I look forward to the launch 😁. Have a lovely Easter 🐰🐣!
