Major Grant Win

At the start of this Term, Sorrento Primary School were lucky enough to secure a large Grant where they chose to secure Bike Education Lessons, Bike Check-up and a Bike Promotion package.

Our Year 4 cohort took part in the Bike Education lessons and had an absolute blast over the four lessons. We have noticed that Year 4 seems to be the year that students begin to ride to school on their own, so we thought they would benefit most from the lessons.

Through Cycle Sense, students were delivered a 4-week bicycle education program that aims to provide students with the skills, confidence, and experience to ride a bike safely. Students were taught fundamental bike riding skills such as balancing, braking, scanning, and turning through a game-sense/experience approach. The next stage develops skills and confidence for traffic environments and includes bike control, etiquette, and hazard perception. Finally, students get to test out their newly taught skills in a fun off-road experience.

What an amazing four sessions our Year 4s had the pleasure of taking part in. We now hope our Year 4s will be encouraged to use these new skills in our active movement, Fuel Free Fridays. We can’t wait to do it all again another year.
