To continue to promote active transport to staff as an alternative way to get to and from Fremantle Hospital, the staff wellness group held a fun 'bike smoothie' activity on 11 March, before Covid-19 restrictions were in place.
Hospital staff rode the bike blender, using pedal power to make themselves a delicious fruit smoothie. By running the 'bike smoothie' activity in the early morning and over the lunch time period, the event was inclusive of staff working night and day shifts. Staff felt pumped, riding the bike blender, whilst listening to a cycling themed music playlist.
Over 100 staff took part in the activity, which created a buzz about cycling to work and other active transport options. Information was available on reducing risks, riding with confidence, bike maintenance, the Fremantle Hospital bike storage area, and the end of trip facilities.
The same week, staff also took part in a 'bike selfie' competition, taking photos of themselves on their bike, for their chance to win bike related prizes.
