Whitfield SAS Activations

Basso's Biggest Street BBQ was held 20 March, 2021.

Residents and households were encouraged to participate by hosting a BBQ with their neighbours by gathering on their front verge in a very informal manner. This encouraged residents to connect, creating a sense of community and belonging.

The Town and DoT provided roving activities and entertainment including skate and BMX demonstrations from Freestyle Now, BikeDr and crazy entertainment from Bizurcus. Kids also stormed the street playing cricket, riding bikes and scooters and drawing artworks on the road with chalk.

Whitfield Safe Active Street was once again bike central as the Town of Bassendean presented Bikefest, an afternoon of activity and engagement with a focus on bikes, ability, and movement on April 10. This marked the third activation along the newly created Whitfield Safe Active Street, celebrating alternative forms of transport other than vehicles.

The event was again supported by the Department of Transport and featured the BikeDr, Bikelinc, TADWA, Bicycles for Humanity and Freestyle Now with their stunt show. There were vehicles to try out ranging from TADWA’s mobility vehicles to penny farthings, unicycles and crazy bikes. The Bassendean Association for Creativity and Enterprise was also there hosting a sausage sizzle for hungry community members.

The Town will be presenting more activations in October 2021, so watch this space.

Hi Tim - well, earning a big 224 points certainly makes up (I hope 🤔) for the technical glitches you experienced in getting this story up! Basso certainly has put on a couple of great events and each event has earned you 40 points, plus 50 each for the Bike Dr clinics, and 20 points for an "outstanding" effort. I have also given you 20 points for putting together an engaging and detailed story 🤩. I'll definitely stay watching this space for your October events!
