I would like to introduce myself, Jordan Fry, as the new Your Move Champion for Beenyup Primary School in 2023. I am the Physical Education teacher at Beenyup PS and am very excited to take on the new role of Champion. After an interrupted 2022 with our previous champion moving on, it is great to get stuck into the Your Move program this year and start some new and exciting initiatives for our school. We have already added more student voice with students and parents asked to bring forward any ideas that they have for our school this year, which we are now working behind the scenes to get out and running.

The first point of call for me this year was the start of the year Hands Up Survey, so I could see the demographic of how our families get to school each morning. Classes were given survey sheets with different modes of transport and then each class had a discussion surrounding the different ways. Some classes even went as far as having debates over which mode of transport is better.

The results showed me some intriguing results with 63% of our school coming by car in the morning. Another intriguing result was that we had a 21% decrease in those riding or scootering to school.

These results are great to see as we can now start planning some of our exciting events such as Wheels on Wednesday, Ride At School Races and some fun other community events to engage students in healthier ways of getting to school.
