2023 National Ride to School Day Events

Last week we celebrated National Ride to School Day over two days, mainly because I do not work on Friday's and so that the students could get the most out of the day.

On Thursday we had a Ride at School event for all of the students who rode their bike or scooters to school. This included a riding course that was set up around the school for the students to ride around during our break times. We first discussed in classes throughout the week what a responsible and safe Ride at School event looks like so that we could come up with some safety rules for when we are riding. These included going slow around the course, keeping our eyes on the path, keeping all of our hands and feet on our bikes or scooters and only going past people in the overtaking zone. We had a very successful ride at school event with over 40% of our students taking part in the day, and hearing and seeing everyone smiling and enjoying riding their bikes and scooters was great to see.

On Friday we encouraged our families to join their students and ride and scooter to school in the morning. We had lots of families take part in the day, so much so that we ran out of room in our bike racks. We will now have to think about adding some extra storage we think. We then promoted the two events on Facebook, as well as our assembly that morning.

We have lots of activities planned for next term and the future, and we cannot wait to share them with our local community and wider expanses.

Beenyup stars shining bright! Congratulations on your events Jordan and team! Sounds super fun. Perhaps a Connecting School grant application for bicycle parking is in order. You need to reach Silver level by Term Two to be eligible. Happy to provide some simple steps to help you get there. That's 40 points for National Ride to School Day participation, 30 for your bicycle course activity and a bonus 20 for great detail and storytelling 🙌🏽
